Overview

Quarry Manager Miami, FL (Medley)

 

We are seeking a Quarry Manager to be based at our Titan Florida LLC Pennsuco facility in Medley, Florida. The combined facility is the largest of its kind in Florida and one of the largest aggregates and cement operations in the US. This position offers exposure to a newly extended 5-mile overland conveyor and in-pit semi-mobile crushing system. In addition, the main processing plant was recently modernized and the three-dragline mining extraction rate is in excess of 16 million tons per year.

 

Safety, profitability, and team performance is the mission as standards are raised, operating processes optimized, and cost-saving measures are applied.

 

The position will report directly to the Aggregates Plant Manager. Qualified candidates will have at least seven to ten years of progressive management experience in aggregates or similar business. Experience leading World Class Safety Teams, continuous improvement successes, and deep knowledge of mining processes in South Florida. The ability to safely optimize operations with an eye towards trimming costs wherever possible will be essential to success in this position. Experience in marine dragline excavation is highly desirable.

 

Personal skills include the ability to communicate effectively in speech and presentation. Able to articulate plans, ideas and vision to subordinates as well as senior management. Must quickly build confidence in the actions being recommended, thrive in Titan's decentralized entrepreneurial operating environment, and work well under the pressure of deadlines and the high visibility of this key position.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Follow and enforce Mine Safety and Health Administration rules and regulations, actively promulgate and support behavioral safety programs through visible leadership.
  • Embrace full responsibility for Pennsuco aggregates P&L performance, specifically on fixed and variable cost management, manpower and productivity.
  • Through subordinates, direct and coordinate production activities of the limestone quarry operations to meet production goals for both the cement and aggregates plants. Review processing schedules and production orders to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, staffing requirements, work procedures, and duty assignments, considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.
  • Implement the Dragline and Primary Crushing system reliability and efficiency plans (two Marion 7820 & Page 732 draglines} in coordination with the Maintenance Manager.
  • Lead the development of short and medium-term mining plans. Utilize mining software to monitor mine planning and reserve extraction maximization.
  • Implement process improvement in all phases of the quarry operation. Optimize drill and blast to ensure mining depth is maintained, advance the automation and data collection/analysis of the processes. Ensure safe and efficient mining and mineral processing methods, logistics, equipment management, manpower utilization, production maximization, and cost reduction.
  • Work with other functional leaders to ensure permitting, compliance and regulatory functions are completed as required and consistent with maximizing limestone reserves.
  • Develop a high-performance culture fully aligned with the cement, aggregates, and sales personnel.
  • Promote a positive "can do" attitude in the work environment, emphasizing a "make change happen" approach while reinforcing group policies and providing feedback.
  • Maintain an open dialog with operations personnel to identify opportunities to improve performance.
  • Ensure the competence and development of department employees (hourly and salaried) by initiating training, coaching, counseling, mentoring and accountability to respond to items identified in the performance reviews while empowering them to perform.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mining or similar Engineering (Progressive responsible mining experience with dragline operations is recommended)
  • Master of Science in Mining/Industrial Engineering or MBA is highly recommended.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, P&L, planning, permitting, compliance, regulatory negotiations and process improvement.
  • Knowledge of permitting, reserve analysis, mine planning, heavy mobile equipment, crushing/screening, mineral processing, materials management (inventory and movement), slurry management, water management, and physical/chemical properties of limestone and limestone products are all key to the position.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, MS Visio, MS Access, AGGFlow, AutoCAD, mine design/planning/scheduling software, ERP software (SAP).
