Overview

Titan Virginia Ready Mix has an excellent opportunity for a Plant Supervisor for its Northern Virginia region, based in Sterling, VA.  This salaried non-exempt position will report directly to the Operations Manager.

 

The Plant Supervisor works independently and is responsible for directing and managing all ready mix concrete plant operations, including but not limited to operations, maintenance, production, inventory control, safety, quality, environmental compliance and supervision of plant employees.  The Plant Supervisor will open and/or close the plant and rotate to various plants as needed.  This position ensures compliance with all standards, policies, and regulations for safe, environmentally-sound production of quality concrete products.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Function as a first line supervisor overseeing plant employees and drivers in production and delivery.
  • Ensure a safe workplace is maintained, following company policies and OSHA guidelines, by conducting and documenting appropriate training requirements for all employees.
  • Schedule deliveries according to information provided by Dispatch office and maintain adequate inventories in order to meet customer needs to include raw materials, building materials, cement, fly ash, and admixtures.
  • Operate the ready mix batch plant using an automated computerized batching system.
  • Maintain a consistent batching sequence and monitor scale and gate accuracy.
  • Ensure that all products produced meet or exceed customers’ expectations regarding quality and service.
  • Ensure deliveries are made promptly, safely and efficiently.
  • Create and update employee work schedules daily.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve plant maintenance problems to ensure efficient and reliable plant operations.
  • Inspect plant facilities, equipment and ready mix units to ensure required maintenance, housekeeping, truck cleaning and safety standards are being upheld.
  • Maintain plant in excellent condition, mechanically and esthetically to include loaders and mixers.  Ensure that the yard is maintained including under the tail pulleys and wash racks.
  • Operate and maintain plant in compliance with all applicable environmental standards to include water management, air quality permits, wash out pits, treatment pits, and quarterly and annual water samples.
  • Follow Company, State and Local rules and regulations, including but not limited to environmental and safety, and ensure all direct reports are performing their roles in the same manner.
  • Prepare and ensure accuracy of paperwork resulting from daily business; on occasion, handle cash sales from customers in accordance with established practices and policy.
  • Ensure that employees are working efficiently and consistently with company policies and guidelines.
  • Maintain good working relationships with co-workers and outside agencies’ personnel.
  • Manage corporately approved disciplinary procedures pertaining to drivers and operators assigned to plant.
  • Control and minimize plant costs while providing a consistent quality product.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must have (or must be able to obtain as soon as possible) ACI Level I Field Testing Technician and VDOT Concrete Batch Plant Operator Certifications within 90 days of hire.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of the automated batch plant operation.
  • Prior experience in Ready Mix Concrete for at least 5 years required and prior experience in concrete plant management preferred.
  • Previous supervisory/ management experience preferred.
  • Must have the ability to exercise discretion and good judgment in supervising the hourly workforce. These tasks include: directing, training, counseling, and disciplining.
  • High School diploma; college degree a plus.
  • Excellent math skills.
  • Proficient working knowledge of Computer and Microsoft Office products.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, early mornings, and overtime
  • Working outdoors with exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold and other outdoor environmental conditions, constant standing and walking, climbing, and working from heights
  • Frequent reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching and sitting
  • Some work outdoors with exposure to extreme heat and cold and other outdoor environmental conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs., multiple times a day
