We are looking for a skilled and motivated Cement Barge Operator to join our team in Chesapeake, VA. This position will be responsible for performing the day-to-day cement import operations.
Responsibilities
Perform all work in a manner to maximize production, quality and customer service
Under general supervision, provide lead direction for a crew of ship unloaders and equipment operators in the maintenance of cement unloading equipment, cement storage silos and maintains spare parts inventory
Maintains safe and clean work area at all times. Leads by example while supporting the Titan Safety Program.
Assist in the process of offloading cement using Kovako Pneumatic Ship Unloading Equipment
Load tanker trucks or rail cars according to job orders while minimizing spillage and dust. Offloads rail cars and ships efficiently in order to minimize spillage, dust and product contamination.
Record operating data such as products and quantities pumped, gauge readings, and operating times, manually or using computers
Operate ship loading and unloading equipment, conveyors, hoists, and other specialized material handling equipment such as railroad tank car unloading equipment. Operation of equipment is inclusive of, but not limited to: Bobcats, Forklifts, Loaders and Trackmobile Equipment
Perform preventive maintenance tasks as outlined by preventive maintenance program and Terminal Manager. Maintain and repair Kovako Pneumatic Ship Unloading Equipment as needed.
Repair equipment, including compressors, pumps, gearboxes, blowers, etc. with limited supervision
Troubleshoot and diagnose cause of equipment or plant malfunctions and provide recommended solution to appropriate plant personnel in a timely manner
Perform and train other Terminal Operators on how to complete maintenance and safety checks of Kovako equipment as required
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of one year of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment accustomed to working around heavy equipment and being exposed to a hazardous work environment.
Availability to work 12 hour shifts (inclusive of weekends and holidays) as needed for duration of ship unloading is required. Flexibility to maintain work schedule in the event of short notice schedule changes.
Familiarity with marine industry, general understanding of the safety requirements to safely secure a barge to the pier and rigging experience is highly preferred.
Intermediate computer experience is required (Outlook, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel).
Understanding of Kovako PLC’s and maintenance repairs a plus.
Knowledge and/or prior cement industry experience a plus.

Ability to work with heavy equipment such as: forklifts, cranes, payloaders, CAT diesel equipment, compressors, pumps, motors, etc.
Strong mechanical aptitude. Ability to troubleshoot equipment with strong mechanical ability; basic understanding of how to operate basic hand tools.
Industrial electrical knowledge is preferred
Ability to understand and execute written and oral instructions and relay instructions to follow-on shifts.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proven attention to detail.
Knowledge of plant operating systems, machines and tools (including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance).
Ability to read pipe schematics inclusive of airlines, product lines, fuel lines, hydraulic lines and other systems.
Physical job requirements include working outdoors with exposure to heat and cold, constant standing and walking, climbing, working from heights as well as lifting up to 100 pounds.
